It was built starting in 1294, from Arnulf of return, and was later expanded also by Vasari and Buontalenti. Conceived to be the residence of the Priori Palace-fortress, is in fact as a monolithic block, interrupted by two floors of elegant mullioned Windows and surmounted by an imposing crenellated terrace, overlooked in turn by the mighty Tower of Arnolfo, called the dual characteristic battlements. As soon as you log in, you will find a lovely courtyard, surrounded by an elegant portico, restored by Michelozzo in 1453. In the Centre of the courtyard a streamlined fountain topped by a bronze Cherub, by Andrea del Verrocchio. A broad staircase, Vasari`s work leads to the first floor where we find the beautiful Salone dei Cinquecento, Chronicle, Senior Council of the city from 1500; from 1865 to 1871 was the seat of the Chamber of deputies of the Kingdom of Italy, when Florence was capital. Finally, since 1872, held its sittings in the Municipal Council. The magnificent Hall has beautiful paintings on the walls of the school of Vasari, and a beautiful coffered ceiling. From the wall right, after passing in front of a statue of Michelangelo, you access the Studiolo of Francesco 1, then the Hall of Tesoretto of Cosimo I (a secret writing, Vasari`s work), and finally to the Sala dei Dugento, created in 1441 by Giuliano and Benedetto da Maiano.
